Post Holidays News

Welcome back from your hols, Christmas-New Year break, refreshed and invigorated for another year of blues…

Firstly A Little Sad News

Because of a funding cut Tauranga Jazz Festival has restructured and reduced the number of stages on The Strand meaning that Hamilton Blues Society will NO longer be involved in this prestigious Easter tradition.  The Committee is exploring other opportunities for Easter 2019, and forward.

Up  And  Coming  Events:

Just remember that Hamilton Gardens Festival and Frankton Thunder are FREE entry, all HBS events are Gold coin donation, except the HBS Concert and Pirongia Blues Festival (both door charge).

wo sleeps and Sunday 27 January Afternoon Blues is on at Biddy’s from 1-5pm – with Kim Earl and The Wide Boys, Velvet Bulldozer, Detour (Morrinsville), and Black Sheep.  This weekend Hamilton hosts the Sevens so if you’re at a bit of a loose-end rip down and join in.  It is also Auckland Anniversary Weekend so Monday is a public holiday also.

Then our first Showcase of 2019 is Thursday 31 January from 7:30pm at Biddy’s including: Detour (Morrinsville), Under The Influence, Out Of The Blues, Magic and 3am Blues.

Next HBS Blues Night coincides with Valentines Day – yes 14 February – The Committee is still debating what can be done to make it special?

Special HBS Concert – The Flaming Mudcats Sunday 17 February from 1pm in the back bar – special format:

Opening with Scissors, paper, blues at 1pm, The Flaming Mudcats from 2pm, closing with Black Sheep.  Darcy Perry will be appearing with The Flaming Mudcats also.    *** Door charge applies: HBS Members $10 :: $15 Non-members ***.

Coming up we have two nights at the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival (HGAF), Hub Stage down by Turtle Lake, Hamilton East:-

First night: Thursday 21 February 5 to 7pm: Conmen and Out Of The Blues
Second night:  Wednesday 27 February also 5-7pm Black Sheep and Shotgun

Then a big one for HBS bands:  Pirongia Blues Festival run by Neil Ransfield,
brought forward to avoid the rain that has plagued past Pirongia events

Pirongia Blues Festival – Alexandria Hotel Pirongia – Saturday 2 March
Door charge applies and I suggest readers check the FaceBook page for more details: start time, who is playing, door charge…

Frankton Thunder again hosts HBS bands at the stage – intersection of Commerce Street and Lake Road – from midday until around 3pm – Magic and 3am Blues, Under The Influence and Shotgun.
